S. Korean Regime Should Not Kowtow to U.S.: KCNA Commentary

Pyongyang, June 20 (KCNA) -- The U.S. is going utterly reckless over the deployment of THAAD in south Korea recently.

The U.S. Department of State, Department of Defense, Congress and media and even President Trump have joined the campaign for pressurizing the south Korean regime, expressing discontent about the its projected reexamination of THAAD's impact on the environment.

Shortly ago, Trump called the secretaries of State and Defense and other diplomacy and security controllers to the White House and underlined the importance to deploy THAAD, despite his awkward position of being driven to impeachment.

Meanwhile, he let officials of his administration appear in media to "express the stand" on the deployment of THAAD. And he dispatched high-ranking officials one after another to south Korea to pressurize the south Korean regime. They intimidated the regime, saying south Korea-U.S. alliance might be broken due to the postponement of THAAD deployment and urging it to press ahead with the earlier deployment of THAAD.

This is just a manifestation of the brigandish nature of the U.S. deeming south Korea as its colony, and an intolerable insult and threat to the south Korean people opposed to the deployment of THAAD.

THAAD is not for protecting south Korea from "north's threat" but for carrying out the U.S. policy of aggression to turn south Korea into the outpost of its missile defense system for carrying out its strategy for dominating the world.

The first deputy director of the General Operation Bureau of the General Staff of the Russian Forces said the U.S. decision to deploy THAAD in south Korea is to secure a military edge over Russia and China.

People of various circles in south Korea and the international community are terming it a U.S. "intention to deploy its global defense system on the Korean peninsula under the pretext of north Korea's nukes and missiles", asserting it will only spark "an arms race and a terrible disaster."

But the U.S. has gone so impudent as to press the south Korean regime, asserting the THAAD deployment is important "not only for the U.S. forces but also for protecting an ally" and "the deployment should not be withdrawn as it is a decision common to allies."

This is just a manifestation of the Yankee-style arrogance that south Korea should be sacrificed for the interests of the U.S. and south Korea is obliged to introduce anything although it is worse than THAAD.

South Korea has turned into a primary target of the neighboring nuclear powers and south Koreans are suffering double and treble economic loss, distressed with mental and psychological pain, due to the deployment of THAAD.

This being a hard fact, the south Korean authorities, which surrendered to the U.S. open threats and blackmails, are clumsily behaving, confirming that there would be no fundamental change in the deployment of THAAD.

By origin, the deployment of THAAD is one of the most serious evils left by the Park Geun Hye regime of south Korea and its withdrawal serves as a touchstone discerning as to whether the present regime of south Korea truly speaks for the candlelight demonstrators or acts a lackey of the U.S. like Park Geun Hye.

The only way out for south Korea to escape from pressure and distress caused by THAAD is to accept the advice of the compatriots in the north and the public demand absolutely.

The south Korean regime should bear in mind that it would only follow in the footsteps of the predecessors if it persists in sycophancy toward the U.S. -0-
