Letter to FATF

Pyongyang, May 12 (KCNA) -- The National Coordinating Committee of the DPRK for Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism sent a letter to the FATF on Friday.

The letter said that a vicious state-sponsored terrorist plot for eliminating the supreme leadership of the DPRK clandestinely prepared by the Central Intelligence Agency of the United States and the Intelligence Service of south Korea in conspiracy has been detected recently.

    It went on:

This proves that the hideous terrorist attempt of the U.S. and the south Korean intelligence institutions aimed to hurt the DPRK supreme leadership has reached an extremely dangerous phase which can no longer be overlooked.

We believe that the FATF, whose mission is to combat money laundering, and the financing of terrorism and proliferation worldwide, also has responsibility to pay attention to the recent hideous state-sponsored terrorist plot committed by the intelligence institutions of the U.S and south Korea and take counter measures to prevent its recurrence.

The FATF is requested to call into question those jurisdictions that organized or conspired the hideous state-sponsored terrorist plot, take counter-measures against them and provide cooperation to the DPRK in its efforts to ferret out to the last one the organizer, conspirator and follower of the terrorist act for severe punishment.

The timely detecting and smashing of the hideous terrorist attempt is attributable to full operation of the integral nationwide system for implementing the hard-and-fast law and regulation in force for anti-money laundering and countering financing of terrorism.

Reiterating the request in strong terms for the FATF to pay due attention to our appeal, we reaffirm that the DPRK will continue to make active contribution to the effort of the international society for rooting out terrorism by faithfully implementing the International Standards on combating money laundering and the financing of terrorism and proliferation in close cooperation with the FATF. -0-
